SwimLogger Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
SwimLogger keeps your fishing logs on your phone. Data only leaves it to look up the weather at your swim, to show maps, to find places and read venue websites when you ask, and, if you choose to sign in, to back up and sync your logs and to share venues with other anglers. Your catches are never shared. We don’t sell your data, show ads or track you.
Who we are
SwimLogger is run by fullmetalshep, based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described here, under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Questions, requests or complaints: shepcustomdesigns@gmail.com. We reply within one month.
What we collect
Everything you log is stored on your phone first. Signing in is optional; if you don’t, nothing you log leaves your phone except as described for weather and maps.
| Data | Examples | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your fishing logs | Sessions, venues, swims, rods and rigs, catches, weights, baits, methods, notes, personal bests | Your phone. Backed up to your account only if you sign in. |
| Precise location | Your position when you start a session; where you sit and where rigs are cast, as you place them on the map | Stored in your logs on your phone (and your account, if signed in). For weather, only a location rounded to about 1 km is sent (see below). |
| Photos | Catch and PB photos you take or choose | Your phone; copied to your account’s private storage if you sign in. Shared images are only ever created and sent by you. |
| Weather and conditions | Pressure, temperature, wind, cloud, rain, moon and light at your session | Calculated or fetched for your logs; stored with them. |
| Account details | Email address; name if your Apple or Google account shares it | Only if you sign in. Apple can hide your real email from us. |
| Profile | Angler name, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Discord handles | Only what you choose to add; stored in your account, not shown to other users (except your angler name, if you choose to be credited for a venue you share). |
| Community venues | Venues you choose to share or edit: name, map position, address, website address, rules, and swim names and positions. Optionally your angler name as credit. A record of each change and which account made it | Public: visible to everyone using SwimLogger. See Community venues. |
| Reports | What you report about a community venue, and any contact details you give (for example a venue owner asking for a correction) | Seen only by the SwimLogger team. |
| Settings | Theme, units, alert preferences | Your phone only. |
We do not collect your contacts, advertising identifiers, or analytics about how you use the app, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
Why we use it
We only use your data to run SwimLogger for you. UK law requires a legal basis for each use:
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Record your sessions and catches, with the weather, moon and light at the time | Contract: it’s the service you’re using |
| Show your swim and spots on a map | Contract |
| Back up and sync your logs and photos, and restore them on a new phone | Contract, once you create an account |
| Send sign-in codes by email | Contract |
| Show pressure, dawn and dusk alerts on your phone | Your choice: you allow notifications and can switch them off in Settings |
| Use your location, camera and photo library | Your choice: your phone asks first, and you can withdraw permission in its settings at any time |
| Publish the venues you choose to share, and let other anglers see and edit them | Contract: it’s the feature you’re using |
| Keep a history of changes to community venues, handle reports and block abusive accounts | Legitimate interests: keeping the shared directory accurate and safe |
| Find a postcode or address on the map, and read a venue’s website preview | Contract: you ask for it each time |
| Keep the service secure and prevent abuse | Legitimate interests |
We never sell your data, use it for advertising, or share your fishing spots with anyone. Community venues only ever contain venue facts: never your catches, sessions, notes, swim notes or where you cast.
Who we share it with
A few services process data so the app can work. They only receive what their job needs, and none of them get your data to use for their own purposes.
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase (hosting) | Your account details, synced logs, profile and photos | Stores your backup, only if you sign in |
| Open-Meteo (OpenMeteo GmbH, Switzerland) | A location rounded to about 1 km, and the time | Weather for your session. No account or identity is sent; Open-Meteo says its server logs may hold request locations and are deleted after 90 days |
| Apple Maps (iPhone) or Google Maps (Android) | The map area on your screen, requested by your phone | Showing the satellite map |
| Apple and Google (sign-in) | That you’re signing in to SwimLogger | Sign in with Apple or Google, if you choose them |
| Google (Gmail) | Your email address | Sending your sign-in code |
| Apple (iPhone) or Google (Android) place search | The postcode, address or place you type | Finding it on the map, only when you search |
| The venue’s own website | A normal web request from your phone, so the site sees your IP address as with any visit | Reading the page’s title, description, picture and postcode for a preview, only when you ask |
When you share a catch, you choose the app it goes to, and that app’s own privacy policy applies. Share cards are new images: they never include your photo’s hidden location data, your swim or map spots, and the venue name is off unless you turn it on.
We may disclose data if the law requires it, for example a valid request from the police or a court.
Community venues
If you sign in, you can share a venue with other anglers, and add or edit venues others have shared. What you share is public: anyone using SwimLogger can see it, without signing in, and edit it.
- What’s shared: the venue’s name, map position, address, website address, rules, and its swims’ names and positions. Nothing else from your logs.
- Credit: your angler name is shown on a venue you share only if you turn on “Credit me”. You can turn it off at any time.
- Edit history: every change is recorded with the account that made it (an ID, not your name). Only the SwimLogger team can see the history. We use it to undo bad changes and to block accounts that abuse the directory.
- Reports: reports and any contact details in them are seen only by the SwimLogger team, and kept for up to 12 months after they’re resolved.
- Blocked accounts: if we block an account from contributing, we keep a record of that for as long as the block applies.
- If you delete your account: venues and edits you contributed stay in the directory so other anglers can still use them, but your name and your account are removed from them and from the edit history.
Venue owners can ask us to correct or remove a venue by reporting it in the app or emailing shepcustomdesigns@gmail.com. The Terms of Use cover what may be shared.
Where it’s stored and how long we keep it
On your phone, your logs and photos stay until you delete them or remove the app.
In your account, backed-up data is stored by Supabase in Ireland (EU) and kept until you delete it or delete your account. Each account’s data is locked so only that account can read it, and photos are kept in private storage.
When you delete something in the app, it’s deleted from your backup at the next sync. When you delete your account, your logs, photos, profile and login are deleted straight away; copies can remain in our hosting provider’s encrypted backups for a short time until they are overwritten.
Some of our providers are based outside the UK. Where data leaves the UK, it’s protected by UK adequacy decisions (Switzerland and the EU have them) or the UK’s approved data transfer agreements.
Your rights and deleting your account
You can ask us at any time to:
- see the data we hold about you, or get a copy to take elsewhere
- correct anything that’s wrong
- delete your data
- restrict or object to how we use it
Email shepcustomdesigns@gmail.com and we’ll respond within one month. We may ask you to confirm it’s your account first.
To delete your account in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This deletes your backed-up logs, photos, profile and login. The app then asks whether to keep or erase the copy on your phone.
To delete your account without the app: email shepcustomdesigns@gmail.com from the address you sign in with, with the subject “Delete my SwimLogger account”. We’ll delete it and confirm within 30 days.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
You need to be 13 or older to create a SwimLogger account. Younger anglers can use the app without an account, which keeps everything on their phone. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we’ll delete it. Parents can contact shepcustomdesigns@gmail.com.
The app is private by default for everyone: logs aren’t visible to other users, there are no ads or tracking, and share cards leave out the venue unless it’s turned on. Only venues you choose to share in community venues are public, and children under 13 can’t share, because sharing needs an account.
Cookies and tracking
The SwimLogger app doesn’t use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking. It stores only what it needs on your phone to work: your logs and photos, your settings, and your sign-in so you stay logged in. Because that storage is essential to the service you asked for, it doesn’t need a consent banner. If we ever add analytics, we’ll ask first and update this policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and its date. For significant changes, such as a new kind of data or a new service that receives it, we’ll also tell you in the app before they take effect.
